Iran embassy dismisses US ambassador’s PKK claims

The Iranian Embassy in Ankara has dismissed remarks by the US ambassador to Turkey alleging that Tehran is sending military aid to terrorist groups via Syria.

Issuing a statement on Thursday, the embassy noted that such remarks are an evasive measure aimed at putting a lid on the US role in promoting terrorism in different parts of the world.

Turkey’s Zaman newspaper on Wednesday quoted US Ambassador to Turkey Francis Ricciardone as saying that Syria's government is sending Iranian weapons to Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) to attack Turkey.

“Yesterday’s comments by the US ambassador to Turkey once again revealed the American government’s intentions to sow discord between the two friendly and brotherly countries of Iran and Turkey,” the Iranian embassy statement said.

“It has been an age-old and constant strategy of the US government to foment discord among Muslim nations and governments and provoke ethnic and sectarian differences with the aim of weakening regional nations and realizing the Zionist regime’s long-held desire to rule a territory spreading from the Nile to the Euphrates.”
