Turkish FM: Brahimi to contribute to peaceful settlement in Syria

Turkey welcomes appointment of the Algerian diplomat Lahdar Brhimi to the position of the UN special envoy on Syria, Trend reports.

Turkey believes that Brahimi will contribute to the peaceful shift to democracy in Syria within legal demands of the Syrian population, the Foreign Ministry of Turkey said.

Lihdar Brahimi, the former Algerian foreign minister, agreed to replace the former UN General Secretary Kofi Annan at the position of the special envoy on Syria.
