In the parliamentary elections in Georgia the first number of the
party list from the ruling party "United National Movement" will be
the Speaker of Parliament David Bakradze. The current head of
government, Merabishvili is nominated to be the prime minister. This
was announced today at a press briefing by the party speaker, Chiora
Taktakishvili, Trend reports.
According to her, Bakradze and Merabishvili are ready to appear in the
debates and take part in discussions with their main opponents. "Debates
are a very important part of the democratic process of elections, and
our party is ready for it," Taktakishvili said.
Today's announcement marks the end of speculation about the future of
incumbent President of Georgia Mikheil Saakashvili. The opposition
claimed that Saakashvili could run for the post of prime minister,
whose power after 2013 will be greater than that of the president. It
is still unknown which position Saakashvili should take after the end
of his second term in office in 2013.
