Armenia suspected in having bank ties with Iran in violation of unilateral US sanctions

The Islamic Republic of Iran pressure from international sanctions is seeking to expand banking activities in Armenia. On this occasion, Reuters printed an article according to which Iran is interested in neighboring Armenia.

Armenian officials deny any information about banking relationships with Iran. Despite that, US officials regularly threaten their Armenian partners to engage in a more rigorous financial control, Tert.am reports.

Reuters also recalls that the construction of a gas pipeline from Iran to Armenia will be completed in 2014, and Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said earlier that the annual trade turnover between Armenia and Iran is $ 1 billion.
