The US Treasury has permitted NGOs to provide humanitarian aid for the population suffering from the recent earthquake in Iran, RIA Novosti reports.
The earthquake happened on August 11. About 300 people died and over 1500 were injured. US sanctions ban all deals with Iran. But the US Treasury has permitted NGOs to collect cash and provide Iran with humanitarian aid.
The permit will be in force until October 5. Any NGOs can send up to $300,000 for recovery. Food and medicaments are unaffected by the sanctions.
