Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev is on a visit to Bishkek. He was welcomed at the Manas Airport by Kyrgyz President Almazbek Atambayev, KyrTAG reports.
This has been the first visit of a Kazakh president to Kyrgyzstan in 20 years since establishment of diplomatic relations between the two states on October 15, 1992.
The leaders will discuss the strategic alliance and partnership, cooperation in economics, agriculture, culture, water and energy. Special attention will be paid to the two Kambarata dams on River Naryn. The presidents will sign the anniversary declaration to continue development of ties and a set of other bilateral agreements.
Trade turnover between Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan totaled $750 million in 2011, $375 million in January-May 2012.
Kyrgyzstan hosted the Kazakh Cultural Festival.
Nazarbayev will attend the summit of the council of cooperation of Turkic states hosted by Bishkek on August 23.
