European Broadcasting Union starts General Assembly session in Baku

The64th General Assembly session of the European Broadcasting Union
(EBU) started in Baku today, APA reports.


The event is held in the CIS space for the first time, and headed by
the Company of Public TV and Radio Broadcasting - the only member of
the structure from Azerbaijan. The session will last 3 days with 75
organizations of TV and radio from 46 countries represented, including
the well-known public broadcasters of the broadcasting unions of
Europe, Asia, Africa, America.


The president of EBU, Jean-Paul Philippot, spoke at the opening
ceremony about the importance of the event. Then the head of the
Company of Public TV and Radio Broadcasting, Ismail Omarov, made a
speech, expressing hope that the decisions made at the session will
create new opportunities for cooperation.


He noted the importance of public television in creating a pluralism
of opinion and emphasized the influence of public TV and radio on
civil society.
