Protestors in the Tajik city of Khorugh have agreed to stop their rally by
the end of the day if the authorities withdraw the army from the city.
This agreement was reached during negotiations between the
government and representatives of civil society of the
Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Province and protestors, ITAR-TASS
reports.
According to the information, the governmental delegation included the
Tajikistani Minister of Defense Sherali Khairollayev, Minister of
Interior Ramazan Rakhimov and some others, who called on the population for
peace and stability. It was mentioned that the General Prosecutor of
Tajikistan has started a criminal case into the murder of the informal
leader of the Badakhshani opposition, Imomhazar Imomnazarov, who died
when a bomb exploded in his house on August 22. This murder
stimulated a new wave of violence in Khorugh.
