On August 24, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic
in Bishkek recalled its Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador to
the Republic of Belarus, Eric Asanaliev, for consultations, the Kyrgyz
Foreign Ministry said today, KirTAG reports.
The Kyrgyz Foreign Ministry reported that the measure was taken due to
the lack of response of the competent authorities of Belarus to the
statement made by the Kyrgyz Ministry of Foreign Affairs on the
extradition of Zhanysh Bakiyev, who is on the wanted list of Kyrgyzstan and
Interpol and is currently residing in Belarus.
Zhanysh Bakiyev is the former head of the State Security Service of
Kyrgyzstan. He is on the international wanted list in connection with
particularly serious crimes. He is accused of complicity in massacres
of civilians.
The information about his stay in Belarus first appeared in the Russian
newspaper "Kommersant" on August 20.
