Egypt wants to form a regional contact group for Syria with Saudi Arabia, Iran and Turkey, spokesman of the Egyptian Foreign Ministry Amr Rushdi said. The states will have negotiations with Syria. Egyptian Foreign Minister Mohamed Kamel Amr has discussed the issue with his Saudi Arabian and Turkish counterparts.
Spokesman of the Egyptian president’s chancellery Yaser Ali said that it would consolidate states.
Egyptian President Mohamed Morsi will attend the Non-Aligned Movement summit in Tehran on August 20, making the first visit of an Egyptian president to Iran in over 30 years. It is the first serious step to restore diplomatic relations between the two states since 1979, ITAR-TASS reports.
