Georgia may soon decide whether to grant refugee status to Adam
Osmaev, Osmaev's lawyer, Valery Kochetov, announced today.
He recalled that the extradition of Osmaev from Ukraine to Russia
was suspended and that the Ukrainian migration service had refused to consider his
documents. Osmaev asked Georgia and Finland for refugee status after he had
given up his Russian citizenship, RIA Novosti reports.
He expressed hope for a positive decision from the Georgian authorities.
In this case, if the decisions of Georgia or Finland are positive,
Ukraine will be obliged to release Osmaev to one of these countries.
Osmaev is accused of preparing the assassination of Russian President
Vladimir Putin.
