Kazakhstan proposes new anti-nuclear initiatives

Astana is hosting the international anti-nuclear forum. Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev said that his initiatives are meant to stop using nuclear energy for military purposes. G-global will make the world safe from nuclear threats.

G-global is a set of initiatives, which include scrapping of nuclear weapons in the US and Russia basing on mutual trust.

Kazakhstan has launched a project called “abolition of test – our mission” so that any person in the world could sign an online petition so that world leaders could signed an agreement to ban all nuclear tests (http://www.theatomproject.org/ru/).

Nazarbayev proposed formation of an Anti-Nuclear Parliamentary Assembly.

He reminded that Kazakhstan had proposed formation of a bank of nuclear fuel at the UN General Assembly.

The Kazakh president signed a decree closing the Semipalatinsk Test Site on August 19, 1991. Kazakhstan scrapped its nuclear arsenal and became a nuclear-free state. Nazarbayev proposed setting August 29 as the International Day of Action Against Nuclear Tests at the UN General Assembly in 2009.
