Belgium will be the chairman of EU for the 12th time from July 1st to
December 31st 2010. According to APA, the chairmanship of Belgium is
especially important. Belgium will fulfill its obligations within the
new Lisbon agreement, that came into force on 1st December 2009. The
program of Belgium's chairmanship is part of the 18-month program of
group chairmanship (Spain-Belgium-Hungary).
The program has 5 aspects:
-fighting the economic crisis and modernizing the economy and finances;
- fighting global warming and solving environmental issues, UN will
have a conference on climate changes in December 2010 in Kankun
(Mexico);
-expanding the EU;
- strengthening the policy of the EU in the social sphere, mainly the
problems of poverty;
- realization of the plan of the Stockholm program in justice and
interior affairs, sanctuary for migration.
