The Minister of Internal Affairs of Azerbaijan will become the new
chairman of the Council of Heads of CIS Interior Ministers,
RIA-Novosti reports, quoting a source in the office for the
coordination of the fight against organized crime and other dangerous
crimes on the territory of the CIS countries.
Earlier on Monday, the Armenian police sent a message to the upcoming
Baku meeting, to take place from September 6-8, with a refusal to
participate in the meeting in connection with the extradition to Baku of an
Azerbaijani officer, Ramil Safarov, who in 2004 murdered an Armenian
officer in Budapest, and declared that Armenia is delegating
its authority as the chairman of the meeting to the Russian side.
"According to the regulations of the Ministries of Interior of the CIS
countries, the transfer of authority takes place by rotation according
to the Latin alphabet. So Armenia's chairmanship in the organization
goes to Azerbaijan," the source said.
