Russia has appealed to countries with influence on the leaders of the
Syrian Free Army (SSA) to eliminate the threat to shoot down civilian
aircraft over the airports in Damascus and Aleppo, the
website of the Foreign Ministry of Russia reads, RIA Novosti reports.

The statement came after gunmen from the Syrian Free Army spread
information in the media that the SFA is considering the international
airports in Damascus and Aleppo as military targets. Earlier, the SFA
demanded civil airlines to stop flights to the international
airports of the two major Syrian cities within 72 hours as of September 1
under the threat of shooting down planes.

According to Russian diplomats, the latest statement of the FSA
confirms that "terrorism is becoming one of the main methods of its
activities."
