Russian police to cooperate with Cossacks

Cossack ataman (chieftain) Valery Nalimov said that the Interior Ministry was working inefficiently at combating crime. Cossack patrols could be authorized to bring violators to the police station, he proposes, Interfax reports.

The Interior Ministry said on Thursday that authorizing public organizations to carry out functions of the police is illegal. The police are open for dialogue with the public and are willing to cooperate with volunteers, the ministry adds.
