Roza Otunbayeva officially becomes president of Kyrgyzstan

The official inauguration ceremony took place today in Kyrgyzstan’s capital Bishkek, making Rosa Otunbayeva the first woman-president in the history of the CIS (Commonwealth of Independent States), according to the RIA Novosti correspondent.

In her inauguration speech Roza Otunbayeva declared that she will do her best to create a new political culture, based on strict observance of the law in the Kyrgyz Republic, reports ITAR-TASS.

“I will consistently survey the execution of  this new state policy by all governing structures. Our politics cannot be based on fantasies or illusions, it should become practical and efficient” – declares Ms. Otunbayeva. In her opinion, the recent constitutional referendum managed to change the governing system “in a revolutionary way” and open the way for building a real democracy.

Roza Otunbayeva says that the new government is committed to all democratic freedoms and rights, as well as to the traditions of the people of Kyrgyzstan. The president also declared that she fully understands the measure of her responsibility, and she hopes for the support of her political allies and the country’s people and for the
