The US has sent CIA agents and diplomats to the Turkish-Syrian border, ITAR-TASS reports.
CIA presence was reported in June 2012. Some media said that the agents were controlling shipments of agents to Syrian opposition to prevent it from falling into the hands of Al Qaeda.
Turkey and the US agreed to form an intelligence shield on August 24 to exchange information on the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) and Al Qaeda in Syria. Agreements were signed at a meeting of US Assistant Secretary of State Elizabeth Jones and an assistant of the Turkish foreign minister Halit Cevik. CIA agents were sent from Afghanistan and Pakistan for the mission.
