US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton hopes the Jackson-Vanik amendment will be repealed already before this month is out, The Voice of Russia reports.
Speaking at the APEC summit in Vladivostok she said that the Obama Administration was working closely with Congress on this issue and on granting Russia the status of a normal trade partner.
The Jackson-Vanik amendment, adopted in 1974, imposed trade restrictions on the Soviet Union for its poor human rights policies, particularly restrictions on the emigration of religious minorities.
The Obama Administration has repeatedly promised to make the notorious amendment a thing of the past.
