Iranian Minister for Transportation and Housing Ali Nikzad said that Iran had about 11,000 km of railway under construction, Iran News reports.
He reminded that all existing railways had the same total length before President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad came to power with the 9th government in 2005.
Nikzad emphasized that all administrative centers of provinces need to be connected. 18 provinces had railway connection, 9 were concluding railway construction to be connected and four were studying railway construction specifics.
The minister said that 2,108 km of railways have been built since summer 2005 (9th and 10th government). About 1,000 km more will be completed this year.
