Iran is one of the main security issues of Azerbaijan, new U.S.
ambassador to Azerbaijan Richard Morningstar told reporters in Baku on
Monday, reports Trend.
"With the respect to the U.S. - Azerbaijan cooperation relating to
Iran, this is major security issue for Azerbaijan and we are working
on and we are continuing working on the issues related to Iran," he
said.
"During my meetings with the officials we always touched on and will
touch on this issue," Morningstar added.
The ambassador said that Washington will continue to work closely with
Azerbaijan on this issue.
Regarding a letter from Congressman Dana Rohrabacher addressed to
Hillary Clinton, the ambassador noted that the United States respects
the recognized borders of Iran.
"Ideas of Congressman Rohrabacher do not reflect the official position
of the United States," Morningstar said.
Earlier, the U.S. State Department confirmed receipt of a letter from
Congressman Dana Rohrabacher addressed to Secretary of State Hillary
Clinton on the need to support the fight for the independence of
Azerbaijan province from Iran and the possibility of unification with
