Working group for Azerbaijani WTO membership to meet in late November

Azerbaijani Deputy Foreign Minister Mahmoud Mamedguliyev said that the working group for Azerbaijani membership in the WTO will meet in late November. Azerbaijan needs to file responses to WTO members 4-6 ahead of the meeting, Trend reports.

Meetings may be held in the US, EU or elsewhere, the minister said.

Azerbaijan held the 9th round of talks with the US, EU, Norway, Canada, Ecuador and Japan in February 2012. Bilateral talks were organized with the US, Japan, Brazil, Ecuador, Sri Lanka, EU, Norway, India, South Korea, Taiwan, Canada and Switzerland in Geneva on July 24-28.

Azerbaijan started negotiations in 2004.

Protocols were signed with Turkey, Oman, UAE, Georgia and Kyrgyzstan. A protocol is about to be signed with Moldova.

Azerbaijan will need to adjust 40-50 legal acts to meet WTO standards, about 30 documents have been unified.

The working group for Azerbaijan at the WTO secretariat was formed on July 16, 1997. Azerbaijan has been an observer at the organization since 1997.
