Council of Russian Public Chambers discusses civil nation formation

Makhachkala is hosting a session of the Council of Russian Public Chamber to discuss formation of civil nation. Dagestani Leader Magomedsalam Magomedov attended the session. The talks were opened by Mikhail Ostrovsky, Deputy Chairman of the Council of Russian Public Chambers, Deputy Secretary of the Russian Public Chamber. He called Dagestan the largest and most multinational region of Russia, RIA Dagestan reports.

Magomedov noted cases of ethnic egoism, xenophobia, chauvinism, radical activities and religious and political extremism spreading in the public.

The Dagestani leader wants to focus on preserving spiritual heritage, mutual understanding and friendship as the basis of stability and peace in the region.

Gamzat Gamzatov, Chairman of the Dagestani Public Chamber, pointed out the problem of the legal system of modern society. The system needs to protect all people equally, he believes. Gamzatov proposed 2013 to be the Year of Rasul Gamzatov to mark the 90th anniversary of the poet in Moscow.

Nikolai Svanidze, Chairman of the Commission for Interethnic Relations and Freedom of Conscience of the Russian Public Chamber, concluded the speeches by reminding about the statements made by Alexander Tkachyov, Governor of the Krasnodar Territory. Svanidze believes that such statements are a threat to the country. He proposed more active work with mass media to improve the situation.
