The USA is prepared to help Azerbaijan and its citizens build a prosperous, independent and democratic state, declared the US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton on Sunday, during the meeting with Azerbaijani youth, Trend reports.
"I am optimistic on the question of Azerbaijan's potential. It is situated in a strategically important region. This country has an unusual history and rich resources, and it may be interesting for the world to know more about it", said Ms. Clinton. "The political success of many countries during the 21st century will depend on their openness, their ability to carry on a dialogue. My mission as the Secretary of State is to support democracy, freedom and youth", Ms. Clinton noted, talking of new internet possibilities, including the Internet.
The USA's commitment to free declaration of will remains the same, stressed the Secretary of State, citing America's history of gaining political freedom as an example of a way that could possibly be carried out by a democratic country.
According to Clinton, Azerbaijan has made significant progress, but there is still a lot to do, including improving the judicial system.
Members of the youth organisations "Ireli" and "Dalga", as well as the European Integration of Azerbaijani Youth Organisation and the Azerbaijani Students' Organisation took part in the meeting with the US State Secretary.
During their meeting, the Azerbaijani President asked the USA for help in settling the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, calling it the main threat to regional stability, and that the Azerbaijani people are suffering from it. Ms. Clinton declared that this question is also of great importance for the USA.
Following tradition, Ms. Clinton visited the Şəhidlər Xiyabanı (Alley of Martyrs) memorial complex in Baku on the 4th of July and laid flowers at the graves of Azerbaijani national heroes and at the eternal flame.
