Energy contracts to undergo approval of European Commission

The European Parliament has passed a bill obliging all states to have their interstate energy contracts undergo approval by the European Commission. All existing contracts need approval as well, APA reports.

Documents will be passed to Brussels once in every three years. Any EU member may request consultations for signing of new deals.

Experts say that Russian-EU gas deals may face problems. The European Commission started anti-monopoly investigations against Gazprom on September 4, suspecting the Russian company of exaggerating prices.
