Italy intends to represent the interests of Canada in Iran after the Canadian authorities decided to close its embassy in Tehran, the Italian Foreign Ministry announced, RIA Novosti reports.
The Canadian authorities announced the closure of the embassy in Iran on September 7, and Iranian diplomats were to leave the territory of Canada in five days.
The Canadian Foreign Minister John Baird said that the Iranian government is a great threat to peace and security in the nowadays world.
Baird has accused Iran of supplying weapons and ammunition to Syria, where an armed conflict continues since March 2011 between the authorities and anti-government forces, as well as of developing a nuclear program.
