Georgia has been elected as the chair of the Congress of European Constitutional Courts for 2014-2017 in Vienna, Georgia Online reports.
Austria will pass chairmanship to President of the Georgian Constitutional Court Giorgi Papuashvili. Batumi will host sessions of the Georgian Constitutional Court in 2014-2017.
Russia was the only one out of 40 states to vote against Georgian chairmanship.
The congress was founded in 1971 and Georgia has become the first non-member of the EU to chair the organization in the last 20 years.
