Turkmen President Gurbangulu Berdimuhammedov pointed out the need to further strengthen the country's Caspian Sea at a recent Turkmen Security Council meeting, a government statement said. At the meeting, Berdimuhammedov also signed a decree ordering the construction of a shipyard at the State Border Service, Trend reports.
"The Turkmen military doctrine is purely defensive in nature," Berdimuhamedov said. He added that Turkmenistan has chosen the status of a permanently neutral state.
"All these years, we have steadily pursued a policy of peacemaking and neighbourliness, acting as a kind of guarantor of regional stability and security," Berdimuhammedov said.
