Russia is fulfilling the requirements of UN sanctions against Iran, the Russian Permanent Representative at the world body, Vitaly Churkin, said on Thursday, RIA Novosti reports.
"Russia has fully complied with all UN Security Council resolutions on Iran," the Russian diplomat said at a meeting of the UN Security Council to impose sanctions on Iran, previously scheduled regarding its nuclear program.
"At the same time, we are convinced that the effectiveness of the sanctions regime and the whole collectivity and unity of the international community to resolve the situation around the Iranian nuclear program is undermined by additional unilateral restrictions" Churkin said.
According to him, in some cases the unilateral sanctions against Tehran "are of an extraterritorial character, which is categorically unacceptable from the international legal point of view."
