Georgian Interior Minister Bachan (Bacho) Akhalaya has submitted his resignation to the President of Georgia, according to a statement posted on the Interior Ministry website, Trend reports.
From 2005 to 2008, Akhalaya served as head of the Department of Corrections of the Ministry of Justice of Georgia.
Throughout Georgia protests have been held since September 18 in connection with the abuse of prisoners by staff, which was shown by opposition TV channels.
