The US State Department on Friday decided to take the exiled Iranian
group Mujahedin-e-Khalq, or MEK, off the State Department terror
list, Itar-Tass reports.
The notification will be followed by a formal de-listing from the
State Department’s list of Foreign Terrorist Organizations in the
coming days.
MEK was created in the 1960s by students of Tehran University to
fight the Shah's regime. It was placed on the US terrorism list in
1997 because of the killing of six Americans in Iran in the 1970s and
an attempted attack against the Iranian mission to the United Nations
in 1992.
