Ahmadinejad made the remarks in a meeting with the UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon on the sidelines of the 67th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York on Sunday, Fars News reports.
During the meeting, Ahmadinejad called for closer cooperation between the NAM and the United Nations, and said that effective measures should be taken to establish sustainable peace throughout the world.
Ahmadinejad arrived in New York on earlier in the day to participate in the 67th session of the UN General Assembly.
Ahmadinejad is scheduled to address the session on Wednesday and elaborate on the Islamic Republic’s stance on key international issues.
On the sidelines of the session, he will also hold talks with senior officials from the participating countries, other UN figures, heads of regional and global organizations, American university professors and students, religious leaders and Iranian nationals in the US.
This is Ahmadinejad’s eighth trip to New York for a UN General Assembly session since first becoming president back in 2005.
