Idrisov becomes Kazakh Foreign Minister

Kazakh Ambassador to the US Yerlan Idrisov has become the Foreign Minister, replacing Yerzhan Kazykhanov, RIA Novosti reports.

Kazakh Prime Minister Karim Masimov resigned early this week. Vice Premier Serik Ahmetov has become the Prime Minister. All ministers, except ministers for economic development and trade, labour and social protection, remain in office.

Idrisov was born in the Karaganda Region in 1959. He graduated from the Department for International Economic Relations at the Moscow State University of International Relations (MGIMO). He graduated from the Russian Diplomatic Academy. Idrisov worked as a presidential assistant for international affairs, Deputy Foreign Minister and Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador to the UK, Norway, Sweden and Ireland.

He was the Foreign Minister of Kazakhstan in 1999-2002. He became the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador to the US and Brazil in 2007.
