The Russian parliament has chosen Alexey Mitrofanov of A Fair Russia as the head of the committee for media, RIA Novosti reports.
Andrey Tumanov of the same party was a candidate for the position. Mitrofanov won by 292 votes to 150.
The 30th committee will specialize in information policy, technologies and communication.
Mitrofanov promised to support journalists and freedom of speech.
