The Russian Security Council has decided to gradually form a unified Investigative Committee, Gazeta.ru cites MP Alexander Khinshtein as saying.
The lawmaker said that the structure needs detailed discussions and will not be reformed in 2013.
The Interior Ministry is opposed to the initiative. The Prosecutor General’s Office said that the bill would only be passed if prosecutors gain more authority. Chairman of the Investigative Committee Alexander Bastrykin approved the proposals of the Prosecutor General’s Office.
