Gmail service was open on Sunday morning. About 34 million Internet users in Iran use Gmail.
YouTube, another service of Google, remains banned in Iran due to the “Innocence of Muslims” film.
Iran has one of the world’s strictest Internet filters. It is usually evaded using VPN. Iranian authorities have been discussing formation of own network, isolated from the world-wide web, for a long time.
