The European Commission will grant €8 million to Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan within the framework of Disaster Preparedness ECHO (DIPECHO), ITAR-TASS reports.
Kristalina Georgieva, EU Commissioner for International Cooperation, Humanitarian Aid and Crisis Response, said that disaster preparedness may play the key role in saving people and their property. Every euro spent on preparedness saves €7 of damage.
DIPECHO focuses on strengthening infrastructure, staff training, informing the population, development and improvement of local systems of disaster reports.
