The envoy of the Russian Federation in the Council of Europe, Alexander Alekseyev, signed the Council of Europe Convention on the Protection of Children against Sexual Exploitation and Sexual Abuse on Monday in Strasburg, RIA Novosti reports.
“The signing of this international agreement marks a firm political will in following children rights in the Russian Federation, struggling against pedophilia and sexual exploitation of children. This initiative continues the line of the Russian authorities toward providing prosperity of children and young people, establishing of conditions for normal development and security,” the department on information and press of the Russian Ministry for Foreign Affairs said.
The Convention was opened for signing on October 25, 2007, and began its operation in July 1st, 2007.
