Lithuania decided to file a lawsuit against Gazprom (Russia) worth $1.65 billion to the Stockholm Arbitration Court today, Interfax reports.
Gazprom owns 37.1% of Lietuvos Dujos, the Lithuanian gas distribution company. Lithuania has become one of the first state to fulfill the third energy package of the EU. The case has been ongoing since 2010. Lithuania plans to pass a bill on gas to deprive Gazprom of gas transport networks.
Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia were given time before fulfilling the third energy package. Lithuania purchases 1000 cubic meters of Russian gas for $490.
The European Parliament passed a bill on September 14, allowing the European Commission to check all energy agreements.
