Russian Foreign Minster Sergey Lavrov doesn't rule out that the EU is politicising
the question of abolishing the need for visas with Russia.
"We feel that the reasons for this are not technical. We are solving
these technical issues with customs controls, biometric passports,
foreigners' registration in order to adjust to the EU requirements,"
Lavrov told the European Business Association, ITAR-TASS
reports.
According to him, Brussels thinks that the time to abolish visas has
not yet come. "We have information that it is politically
unacceptable to abolish visas for Russia for the Eastern
Partnership. If this is so, it is a politicized approach," Lavrov said.
Lavrov reminded that on October 14 he will meet his European
colleagues in Luxembourg, where he hopes to hear that his suspicions
are unfounded.
