Leonid Gusev: Saakashvili is waiting for Georgian Dream to collapse

Georgian President Mikhail Saakashvili has granted the petition of resignation to the current government. A senior fellow of the Institute of International Studies at the MGIMO, Leonid Gusev gave an exclusive comment on the situation to the VK.

The expert said that the resignation of the government in Georgia is legitimate and was to be expected.
Speaking about the further development of events in Georgia, the Russian expert stressed that the project of Bidzina Ivanishvili is very diverse. "It consists of three different parties and, in addition, includes a lot of the so-called single-seat deputies that at the moment are on one side and in  couple of months will change their position. The first months will show whether the new government is stable and for how long will it survive in Georgia," Gusev said.

The expert explained the unusual calmness of Mikhail Saakashvili after the defeat of his party in the elections by two main reasons.

"On the one hand, the Western allies made it clear to the President of Georgia, that being a democrat he has to admit his defeat, but this is not the main thing. On the other hand, and this is more important, Saakashvili and his entourage might feel that the bloc that just came to power might collapse in a few months."
