Catherine Ashton, EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, said that the peace plan proposed by Lakhdar Brahimi, a special envoy of the UN and LAS to Syria, RIA Novosti reports.
Ashton said at the meeting of 27 foreign ministers of the EU in Luxembourg that the peace efforts will be successful.
The plan introduces 3,000 UN peacekeepers to Syria. They may come from France, Germany, Spain, Italy and Ireland. They will have the same mission as the UN peacekeepers in Lebanon, monitoring the Israeli-Lebanese borders.
Ashton called the meeting with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov in Luxembourg on Sunday fruitful. They exchange views on development of cooperation, progress in setting a visa-free regime and topical international issues, including Syria.
