Moldova is planning to allow NATO to lease a military base near Bulboaka, Nezavisimaya Gazeta cites Defense Minister of Transnistria Vladislav Finagin as saying.
Moldova has been insisting on withdrawal of the Operative Group of Forces (Russia) together with peacekeepers from Transnistria for a long time. The recent amendments to the Constitution turn out to be targeting NATO, rather than Russia.
Kishinyov has been using the US and Romania to build up forces in the last half a year. Their specialists are preparing special subdivisions of the Interior Ministry and the Service for Information and Security of Moldova.
The security minister of the breakaway republic said that Russian Ambassador Sergey Gubarev had said in Tiraspol at the end of last week that loss of sovereignty and neutrality of Moldova will force Russia to recognize Transnistria’s right for self-identification.
