Eutelsat stops broadcasting Iranian TV channels

Eutelsat and Arqiva stopped broadcasting Iranian TV channels, according to new economic sanctions passed on October 16, ITAR-TASS reports.

The two satellite operators stopped broadcasting channels of the Iranian State TV and Radio Broadcasting Corporation using Hot Bird satellites. The French High Audio and Visual Council benned Sahar-1 of the Iranian corporation.

The new economic sanctions were passed on October 16. They concern energy, trade, finances, TV communications, business, about 30 Iranian legal bodies, including the head of the State TV and Radio Broadcasting Corporation Ezatollah Zargami.

Eutelsat has 29 satellites broadcasting for a third of the world’s population. It is the top European and world’s third largest communication satellite operator.
