US to help participants of Southern Gas Corridor project

The US prioritizes development of competition and prevention of monopoly, US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said at the Georgetown University. She believes that Europe needs US efforts of energy diplomacy after decades of receiving Russian gas.

The secretary of state reminded that the US increased extraction of gas. Extraction has also grown at the Caspian Region and Middle Asia, available for purchase in Europe.

Clinton expressed support for the Southern Gas Corridor project and diversification of the gas market. The US-EU energy council was formed to combat monopoly for gas.

The Trans-Anatolia Gas Pipeline (TANAP) is the central project of the Southern Gas Corridor. Gas for the project will come from the Shah Deniz Field in Azerbaijan (about 10 million cubic meters annually). Gas will be delivered to Turkey, but further deliveries have not been set yet. Nabucco-West is the priority project of the corridor. OMV (Austria), FGSZ (Hungary), Bulgargaz (Bulgaria), Transgaz (Romania), Botas (Turkey) and RWE (Germany) are involved in the project. The final decision on the Southern Gas Corridor will be made in 2013.
