Turkmenistan plans to open a consulate in Astrakhan in about a month. The office will be open for Kalmykia, Krasnodar and Stavropol Territories, Rostov and Volgograd Regions, Interfax reports.
Governor of the Astrakhan Region Alexander Zhilkin met Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov at the 4th International Investment Forum of Turkmenistan.
Turkmenistan and Russia plan to expand ferry traffic through the Olya Port of Astrakhan and Turkmenbashi Port. Two ferries will be built in Croatia before the end of 2013.
The Astrakhan Region and Turkmenistan have increased trade turnover 10-fold in the last years. The turnover was mainly increased by operations of shipbuilding companies The governor said that they had discussed opening of Astrakhan enterprises at the Avaz tourism zone of Turkmenistan.
