New Georgian constitution to begin operation earlier than planned

The ruling coalition Georgian Dream doesn’t trust Saakashvili’s promise to keep out of government affairs and plans to work on the issue of limiting the presidential functions earlier than autumn 2013.

The speaker of the Georgian parliament, David Usupashvili, told RIA Novosti that in case of launching the operation of the new constitution, Saakashvili would remain president as an arbiter rather than as a person who has executive power.

“In other cases we might face certain crises,” Usupashvili thinks. He added that the ruling coalition has no intention of making numerous amendments to the constitution, as Saakashvili did during his term.
