US Ambassador to Tajikistan Susan Mary Eliot said that the US was not searching for an alternative to the Kyrgyzstan’s Manas in Central Asia.
The ambassador said that the US and Kyrgyzstan were negotiating extension of the deal on presence of the US air base in Bishkek. The outstanding deal expires in 2014.
Kyrgyz President Amlazbek Atambayev said that the base will be turned into a civil airport before 2014.
