Georgian president pardons son of first president

Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili has approved the request of Georgian Catholicos Patriarch Ilia II to pardon the son of the country’s first president Tsotne Gamsakhurdia filed in September 28.

His son got C hepatitis during conviction.

Tsotne Gamsakhurdia was detained on October 27, 2009. He was accused of shooting his neighbor David Bajelidze. He was later jailed for 9.5 years of prison for attempting a murder and illegal carrying of firearms. Gamsakhurdia had several hunger strikes during imprisonment.
