Police operation ends in Kazan

A police operation has just ended in Tatarstan's capital Kazan, Ekho Moskvy reports.

One agent of the Federal Security Service has been killed during the operation, the spokesperson for the local office of the Investigative Committee, Elvira Gavizova, says.

Extreme Islamism has become a serious problem in Tatarstan in the last few years. Some of the attacks, including the recent assassination of a local spiritual leader's aide, are notorious.
